Moldavites from Vrábče originate from one of the most famous and strategically significant deposits in South Bohemia, Czech Republic. Located just southwest of České Budějovice, the Vrábče locality (including the classic Vrábče-Nová Hospoda fields) serves as the namesakes for the "Vrábče layers"—the distinct, ancient geological gravel sediments where many of the region’s best tektites are preserved.

Vrábče stones are highly sought after, particularly by jewelry designers, due to their unique structural shapes and a distinct variation in textures.

Key Characteristics of Vrábče Moldavites:

The "Moonlight" Surface Texture: While many Bohemian deposits yield highly jagged spikes, a large percentage of Vrábče stones are celebrated for their distinctive "moonlight" surface. This texture is characterized by a smoother, softly pitted, and undulating matte surface that feels velvety to the touch and mimics a cratered lunar landscape. 

Deep Grooves (The Aggressive Variety): Not all Vrábče moldavites are smooth. The locality also produces highly sculpted, massive pieces covered in deep, chaotic rifts and sharp channels, which form when the stone is preserved in aggressive local acidic soils.

Exceptional Sub-Angular Shapes: Vrábče is famous for throwing beautifully preservation-heavy, flat shapes, dense disciforms, oval plates, and angular "chunks" that showcase the glass fracturing organically prior to fossilization.

Classic Bottle-Green Clarity: These specimens boast a vivid, highly transparent bottle-green to slightly yellowish-green hue. Because they display remarkable clarity with few opaque internal inclusions, they filter natural light beautifully.
