Moldavites from Besednice are widely considered the most prestigious and valuable variety of tektite in the world. They are famously nicknamed "Hedgehogs" (Czech: ježci) because of their extreme, needle-like surface texture and deeply etched, spiky appearance. 

The "Hedgehog" Texture: Unlike most moldavites that have a pitted or leathery surface, Besednice specimens feature delicate, spiny protrusions that resemble thorns or fern-like patterns. 

Locality Rarity: These stones come from a very small area (about 250x80 metres) near the village of Besednice in Southern Bohemia, Czech Republic. 

Exhausted Supply: The primary Besednice mining site is now completely mined out and officially closed. Most genuine pieces currently on the market come from old private collections. 

Investment Value: Because the supply is finite and the demand is high, they are often treated as investment pieces. Specimens larger than 10 grams are exceptionally rare.
