Moldavites from Něchov originate from a highly respected historic fall zone located in South Bohemia, Czech Republic, roughly 3–4 kilometers east of the famous Ločenice municipality. In collector circles, Nechov is considered an elite locality, tightly grouping geologically with the legendary Vrábče and Ločenice structural systems.Because it is a non-commercial, strictly protected site with a total ban on digging, authentic specimens are finite and highly prized.
Key Characteristics of Nechov Moldavites:
The "Pod Vodárnou" Sediment Depth:
The primary concentration of tektites occurs in the southern sector of the village at a micro-locality called Pod Vodárnou ("Under the Waterworks"). Here, the moldavite-bearing tertiary gravel beds plunge vertically, meaning specimens are recovered anywhere from the topmost soil line down to layers several meters deep.
Hybrid Sculptation Profile: Nechov stones display a fascinating dual nature. Many specimens mimic the smooth, harmoniously pitted look of Chlum moldavites. However, deep-layer Nechov pieces showcase the premium, deep "Ločenice-Vrábče" type styling—featuring dense, glassy, or matte pitting combined with sharp structural grooves.
